The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Baao Municipal Fire Station conducted the first-ever Barangay Firefighting Olympics on the 15th day of August 2022 at the Baao Municipal Covered Court. The said event, one of the culminating activities in the month-long celebration of the town’s Founding Anniversary through the Kamuy-An Festival, was participated by ten barangay fire brigades vying for the
Championship. This year’s participants were barangays: Buluang, Del Rosario, San Francisco, San Isidro, San Jose, San Nicolas, San Ramon, San Roque, Sta. Cruz and Sta. Teresita.

The event aims to enhance the participant’s knowledge and skills in firefighting and rescue operations, promote camaraderie and solidarity among neighboring barangays in times of emergency, and raise awareness among the public. Participants were evaluated and given points based on their performance in various stages of the competition, namely: (1) Fire Hose Throwing, (2) Fire Hose Coupling Connection, (3) Bucket Relay, (4) Bucket of Water and Cone Target, (5) LPG Management, and (6) Emergency Rescue Transfer Relay.

During the activity, OIC-Municipal Fire Marshal SFO3 Dario L. Panerio, LPT, J.D., welcomed the participants and guests to the activity. Municipal Mayor Jeffrey S. Besinio extended his support in the conduct of the said competition. Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Vincent C. Paz and Municipal Local Government Operations Officer VI Gladdy F. San Joaquin also delivered messages supporting the activity.

Barangay San Nicolas bagged the first place followed by Barangay San Francisco in second place and Barangay  San Jose in third place. The winners received medals and cash prizes. Special prizes and consolation prizes were also given. (with reports from Ryiel Love Clavecilla and Angelica Baraero)
